How to choose a voltage stabilizer for an air compressor?

2020-11-06
Voltage stabilizer is an electrical equipment with automatic voltage stabilization. In many places, such as factories, the voltage may be too high or too low. What's more, the field voltage will be lower than 300V or higher than 430V. At this time, once the factory voltage is abnormal and exceeds a certain range (380V±10%), the air compressor (especially the screw air compressor) will trip. Actually, the air compressor protects the main components, but it will affect our normal production activities.

Under such circumstances, many air compressor users will choose a voltage regulator to stabilize the front-end voltage of the air compressor and protect it from damage.

Method/Procedure
First of all, you need to confirm the voltage at the site, whether it is too high or too low. There will be specific failure reasons on the air compressor display screen, which can be found by clicking on the display screen.
However, in order to get an accurate value, you still need to measure the following voltages
1. Line voltage UAB, UBC, UAC
2. Phase voltage UAN, UBN, UCN
Then write the values down.

Analyze the recorded voltage to see if the voltage is too high or too low. At the same time, you need to pay attention to whether the three-phase voltage is balanced. Specifically, compare the phase voltages to see if the value difference is too large.

Record the load power in detail. The load here is mainly the air compressor. If you don’t know, you can use a clamp meter to measure the current and then calculate the air compressor power.

According to the statistics of the field voltage and load power, the specific power of voltage stabilizer can be roughly determined by the capacity method:

Generally, the on-site voltage is too low, lower than 340V, for ordinary screw air compressor, it should be equipped with a voltage stabilizer at 3 times the power of the air compressor. For example, a 15KW air compressor, then it is 15KW X 3 = 45KW, so a 50KVA voltage stabilizer is configured.

If the field voltage is too high and exceeds 415V, for permanent magnet variable frequency air compressor, should be equipped with a voltage stabilizer at 2.5 times the power of the air compressor, for example, a 15KW air compressor, then it is 15KW X 2.5 = 37.5KW, o a 40KVA voltage stabilizer is configured.

Attention:
1, When measuring voltage and statistical load power, it must be accurate.

2, After confirm the approximate power of the voltage stabilizer, if this power is not available for the voltage stabilizer, then the larger available power should be chosen instead of a lower power.
